Internet Safety!
Students should be aware while being online. We have been practicing the 4 Rules of Internet Safety and also brought them home to review with a trusted adult.
What are they?
1. I will tell my trusted adult if anything makes me feel sad, scared, or confused.
2. I will ask my trusted adult before sharing information like my name, address, and phone number.
3. I won't meet face-to-face with anyone from the internet.
4. I will always use good netiquette and not be rude or mean online.
Check out these videos to help them stay safe and smart!!

Fifth Grade
As a fifth grader, they will be expected to work on keyboarding skills this school year. We have been using a free online program called Typingweb to help us. It gives lessons based on the ability of each student. It saves their progress and allows me a chance to see how they are doing. Students may use this program at home to practice. The website is www.typingweb.com. Students log into the website with their log-in information that was given out in class.
We will be having a speed test at the end of every trimester. I look for improvement from the baseline test we took at the beginning of the school year. Everyone that participated in the baseline test received 10/10 points.
For the final tests of the trimester, the grading scale looks as follows:
Third-Fifth Grade Keyboarding Grading
Grade Level Standards: 3rd Grade: 15 wpm
4th Grade: 25 wpm
5th Grade: 30 wpm
Must show improvement by end of the trimester.
Grades:
Points - 10 possible
20% improvement 10/10
10% improvement 9/10
1-10% improvement 8/10
No improvement 7/10
Slowed Down 6/10

Alphabetical Autobiographies
*Please look on Student Work Site for GREAT examples from 5th Graders!!*
Fifth graders are currently collaborating in technology and their homeroom writing classes to develop an Alphabetical Autobiography using Microsoft PowerPoint. They are telling about themselves using each letter of the alphabet. For example, "A is for Adrian" - They would then give two sentences describing how Adrian is important or relates to them. The final projects will be on display on the TV screen by the main office. An example I made is below, but I could not upload the entire thing since it was too big. This is just the first few slides to help you if needed.
